Tigercats to Release Debut Album, Isle of Dogs‏...

Tigercats to Release Debut Album, Isle of Dogs April 9, 2012

Isle of Dogs, the debut album from East London indiepop band Tigercats, will be released on CD (Acuarela Discos) and 12" vinyl (Fika Recordings) on April 9, 2012. With 11 songs as heartfelt as they are fantastically catchy and infectious, the band are well in to their stride: enthusiastic, confident, charismatic and fun-loving.

Here’s a bit of history: Tigercats’ singer Duncan played in Esiotrot until suddenly he didn't. After a respectful 18 month interval he asked his brother Giles to join on bass in a new band. The name Tigercats appeared out of the air and was soon followed by Jonny on drums, Stefan on guitar and Laura on keyboard. To date, Tigercats have released three singles on Haircut Records and WeePop! Records: the comparison race is mostly a tie between Orange Juice and Hefner, with The Wave Pictures and Violent Femmes close behind.

Recorded in the newly-rebuilt Soup Studios in Limehouse, underneath legendary east-end ukulele mecca The Duke of Uke, and in a rickety railway arch in Hackney, Isle of Dogs has the band’s adoptive home of East London written in its bones. The upside-down world of the island of skyscrapers looms large in album opener "Coffin for the Isle of Dogs", and and towers over the subsequent tracks as they wind their way past the street-corners and canals of the neighbouring boroughs. But this is no dry guidebook. These are songs about finding a way to live.

Tigercats are currently looking forward to playing the London Popfest in February, and supporting Allo Darlin’ on their upcoming UK tour, before heading out on their own tours of the UK and Europe in the summer.
